What capacity do you need: 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3.5 tons?
Most forklifts in the Netherlands are sold in the 1.5 to 3.5-ton class — but which of the four suits you? It's about more than just the heaviest weight you lift.
Read the data plate carefully: load center
""2 metric tons" means 2,000 kg with a load center of 500 mm—a standard pallet. Deeper or wider loads shift the center of gravity and reduce the safe lifting capacity. Therefore, allow a margin of 20–25% above your heaviest load and read capacity of 1.5 to 30 tons explained.
1.5–1.8 tons: compact and agile
For light pallets, shipping, and narrow spaces. Often as 3-wheel forklift with a small turning radius — see the small forklifts and for example the Hyundai 16BE-X.
2–2.5 tons: the all-rounder
The best-selling class: standard pallets up to 1,000–1,500 kg with ample margin, both indoors and outdoors. The 20BE-X en 25BE-X are our bestsellers — see also 2-ton forklift.
3–3.5 tons: heavier pallets and attachments
Building materials, beverages, paper, machinery — or lighter loads with heavy attachments (clamps cost capacity!). Look 3 ton forklift and 35BE-X.
Heavier? And a smart tip
Over 3.5 tons: 5 tons, 10 tons or the heavy line up to 30 tons. Tip: when in doubt between two classes, choose the heavier one — the price difference is small, the margin in safety and residual value large. We calculate your remaining capacity Free continuous.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which forklift capacity is the most popular?
2 to 2.5 tons: the all-rounder for standard pallets indoors and outdoors, with a generous margin.
How much margin should I take?
20–25% above your heaviest load, and more if there are tall masts or attachments—these reduce the residual capacity.
Is a heavier forklift much more expensive?
Within the 1.5–3.5 ton class, the price difference is limited; the extra margin pays for itself in safety and residual value.
What if my expenses change?
Select the heaviest regular load plus margin and have the remaining capacity formally calculated — we do that for free.
